This year our group Metabolism and Cancer Stem Cells received the Rector Manuel López Award to best junior group in the Institute, awarded with 15000 to hire support research personnel during 2021. We feel really proud of our accomplishments in 2020, a really strange year for everyone, allowing us to compete for and win this award. In fact, after all our effots to get to the optimal objective from the Precipita campaing to extend our predoc Bea´s contract, this award is heaven-sent. New additions to a research group are a luxury for young groups like ours, and we are eager to meet the new member of the team!

Thank you IIS Aragon for supporting your researchers, we are very proud of being part of this Institute!

Nuevo (viejo) artículo!!/New (old) paper!!

One of the few things to celebrate in this strange year 2020 🎉 🥳 🎈

💻 During the lockdown in March-May, when we were not able to go to the lab and the initial results from 2020 were already analyzed, we decided to dig in our computer´s memory and rescue some old data from 2012…

📃 And this paper is the result!

📊 In this work from @petra.jagust in collaboration with our colleagues @sainzlab we show that aggresiveness and chemoresistance in #pancreatic cancer depends on the #antioxidant potential from #CancerStemCells, responsible from disease relapse after conventional chemotherapy. Thus, we open a new window for the desing of new #therapies targeting these cells, to improve the management of this deadly disease. .

Congratulations to the whole team!

#SinCAPA-First National Pancreatic Cancer Researchers Symposium

Better late than never!! This post is a summary of the First National Pancreatic Cancer Researchers Symposium that we organised together with Pilar Martín Duque, Roberto Pazo and Antonio Antón in Zaragoza on November 21st to celebrate the World Pancreatic Cancer Day. 124 participants (29 speakers/chairs+95 attendants) and a lot of great science concentrated in one day! Our main objective was to create a forum in which different researchers interested in pancreatic cancer can share knowledge, materials and points of view. We had great talks both from the basic and the clinical point of view.

You can find the program here:

Pilar Navarro from IMIM opened the symposium talking about interactions between tumor and stroma
Round table and discussion of the second session. From left to right: Manuel Hidalgo, Patricia Sancho, Pilar Martín-Duque, Valeria Grazú, Sonia Melo, Héctor Peinado, Julián Pardo and Jorge Adeva
Patients´perspective session chaired by Roberto Pazo. Representatives from ACANPAN and AECC, as well as a patient who shared her batle with this disease offered a different point of view of research in pancreatic Cancer.

Celebrating the #WorldCancerResearch Day at the AECC 2019 Award Ceremony

We were invited to the AECC 2019 Award Ceremony to officially receive the Worldwide Award. This ceremony takes place every year on September 24th, the World Cancer Research Day, to acknowledge the role of scientific research in the improvement on cancer patients outcomes. The public ceremony, chaired by the Spanish Queen Letizia and the president of AECC, reviewed the position of Spanish research in the cancer field in Europe.

Later on, there was a private ceremony in which all the awardees were offered a personalised commemorative painting by the main representatives of the AECC.

We made it to TV news!

Since our WCR grant is finally official, our communication department made a great job diffusing the news everywhere!! We have been featured in newspapers, radio and even TV! It was a great experience and an amazing opportunity to make the project known for general public.
